INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Since the Danish Young Academy was founded, academies for younger researchers have also been established in many other countries, and networks for young academies have blossomed both on a Nordic-Baltic and on a European level. DUA is committed to these international networks.

However, an increased international cooperation must support the purpose clause of the Young Academy.

Most of the societal challenges we face are global: increasing social, economic, and educational gaps, population growth, and climate change. Such problems are best understood and solved by collaborating across professional and national borders and by increasing the dialogue between researchers, political actors, and citizens across national borders.

The landscape of research policy has also changed radically over recent years, not least due to the establishment of the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Council. These supranational research policy structures influence not only the European research and education climate, but also the states that are not members of the EU. European and international cooperation will provide a better platform to enable influence on research and education policy, whether it is to influence the prioritization of research areas or the criteria for assessing research quality, or to support young researchers from all over the world in their academic developments and careers.

DUA has a close cooperation with the Nordic and Baltic young academies. Among other activities this group arranges common meetings. In 2023 the meeting took place in Oslo, and in 2024 DUA hosted it in Copenhagen.
